Data first

Everything on KnownCarIssues starts from NHTSA's public records. Statistics, charts, tables, rankings and “Key facts” are calculated directly from that data.

How we use AI

On some pages, an AI model helps summarize the most common issues described in owner complaints. These summaries:

• are based only on the complaint records shown for that vehicle;
• are automatically checked against the underlying data before they are published, and are withheld if they don't pass;
• are clearly labeled as AI-assisted, with the date they were last updated.

We do not use AI to write generic articles or pages without data behind them.

Neutrality

We describe what owners and NHTSA report. We do not call vehicles “lemons,” accuse manufacturers of wrongdoing, or speculate about causes that aren't in the records. Owner complaints are presented as unverified reports.

Spotted something wrong? Contact us. We review every report and correct verified errors promptly.
